Undoing Depression
Created by psychologist, Richard O'Connor, Ph.D., author of book, "Undong Depression."  From the site:  "I want this website to be a place where people can find the tools they need to help them live better.  In my work I see far too many people who suffer needlessly because they either don't recognize their own problems or because they either don't recognize their own problems or because they've come to believe that their lonliness or pain is normal.  We've tried to structure this site from the bottom up, so to speak, in order that people will recognize in our topics the problems they're dealing with, find some help on those issues, and some guidance."

Undoing Stress

Another website created by psychologist, Richard O'Connor, who authored a followup to "Undoing Depression" called "Undoing Perpetual Stress: The Missing Connection Between Depression, Anxiety and 21st Century Illness."  From the site: "Contemporary stress has immense -- yet largely unrecognized -- effects on all of us -- on our minds, brains, and bodies.  Stress changes the way the brain, sometimes in dramatic ways, brain structures wither and lose their functioning ability.  As I continued to work with patients and writing Undoing Depression, I began to see that depression, anxiety, addictions and other psychological disorders have much more to do with the effects of this pervasive stress than I'd realized before."   This is simply a wonderful and comprehensive book on the links between stress, anxiety and depression.  Given lawyers' stressful lives, it should be required reading for everyone.

About.com: Mental Health
The mental health tab on About.com is entitled: Cymbalta Gets Mixed Reaction. This page takes a look at the the new drug duloxitine (marketed as Cymbalta) by Eli Lilly, the same company that created Prozac. It is one of a new class of drugs that targets both serotonin and norepinephrine. Unlike other depression drugs, Cymbalta does not contain a label warning that it may increase suicidal tendencies as all studies so far indicate there is no difference in the incidence of suicide between people taking Cymbalta and a placebo.
